Carlos Olvera Appointed Administrative Services Director

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. - Long time Assistant Finance Director Carlos Olvera has been appointed Administrative Services Director for the City of Pacific Grove. In an announcement by City Manager Ross G. Hubbard, Olvera was praised for his work with the city as well his experience and educational background.
Olvera began in Pacific Grove in 1985. He was promoted to Assistant Finance Officer in 1994. Prior to working in Pacific Grove he was the Finance Officer for King City, and he worked as a supervisor in the finance section of the Department of Health in Guadalajara, Mexico. Olvera has also served as a consultant to California cities on the installation of computerized accounting systems.
The new director is a resident of Carmel Valley, where he lives with his wife, Melissa, and youngest daughter, Penny. Their other children, daughter Gretchen, who currently works in the Bahamas, and son Eben, who is studying at University of California in Santa Barbara, grew up on the Monterey Peninsula.
Prior to permanently settling in California, Olvera received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Business Administration from La Salle University in Mexico City. He undertook graduate work in public health administration at Aston University in Birmingham, England, and practical work experience as a Health Center Administrator at the Mexican School of Public Health in Mexico City.
“Carlos has provided excellent services to the City for many years”, Hubbard said, “ I believe that his knowledge and involvement in the City and his background in finance and accounting will enable him to provide excellent services to our community.”
Olvera’s promotion will be effective February 11, 2004.
