About the Committee

The Beautification & Natural Resources Committee consists of seven members. The Beautification Committee and Natural Resources Committee were joined together in February 2004 to create a body that would develop and recommend projects, programs, and activities for beautification of the city; to advise on natual resources and beautification matters; to advise on landscaping, beautification projects, and design plans in the business district, support, encourage, and facilitate the conservation, restoration, and improvement of natural resources in the City; to develop an urban forest vegetation and wildlife habitat management program, and to coordinate such plan with the City's general plan.

The Committee's directive is to develop a street tree program which will promote reforestation and tree preservation in the City and advise on landscaping and design plans in the City parks and other City-owned open space property. The Committee serves to inform the public in regard to problems of the urban forest, including a public information progam, and cooperation with school programs and the like; and addresses specific areas of interest, including restoration of monarch butterfly habitats and shoreline improvements. The Committee informs the public, and advises the Council on issues relating to the recycling and reuse of paper, plastic, metal, and other materials. The Committee shall also hear appeals of actions as pertains to tree permits and may affirm, reverse, or modify such action. Actions of the Committee may be appealed to the City Council.
