City Welcomes David C. Laredo as Newly-Appointed City Attorney

PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. - The City of Pacific Grove welcomes David C. Laredo as the newly-appointed City Attorney. Laredo was appointed by the City Council in March and will begin his new position with the City around the first of April.
Laredo is a managing partner for De Lay & Laredo, a law firm based in Pacific Grove that represents public and non-profit agencies. Before entering private practice, Laredo worked as a Deputy in the Office of the County Counsel for Monterey County. De Lay & Laredo moved its offices from Carmel to Pacific Grove in 1987.
He holds California State Bar #66532, and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court, the California Supreme Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals (9th Circuit), the U.S. District Court, and the U.S. Court of Military Appeals. He is a graduate of UCLA (B.A., English) and Southwestern University, School of Law (J.D.).
Laredo joins the City of Pacific Grove with a wealth of knowledge of Pacific Grove, where he has lived with his wife Ginny since 1976. They moved to Pacific Grove in 1976 when Dave, then a U.S. Navy Lieutenant in the Judge Advocate General Corps, was assigned to the Naval Postgraduate School as its Staff Judge Advocate. Their four children each attended school in Pacific Grove. Ginny is an R.N. at Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula.
As an active member in the Pacific Grove community, Laredo has been involved with several organizations and community groups. He served for over 13 years as founding director and past-Chair of the Kinship Center, a non-profit adoption and child welfare agency. He has served for over 20 years as director and past Chair of the Monterey Credit Union. Dave has been Scoutmaster for Pacific Grove Boy Scout Troop 90 since 1996. As a Scout Leader, Dave has earned the National President's Scoutmaster Award of Merit, the District Award of Merit, and the Silver Beaver Award. Dave is a previous winner of the Scoutmaster Belly Flop and has been crowned "King Flop."
Laredo is an instructor at Monterey College of Law and Monterey Peninsula College, and has lectured at San Jose State University for its Graduate School of Engineering. His biography has been published in Who's Who in American Law, Who's Who in California, and Who's Who in the West. He has written such articles such as Avoid Consensus Killers, The CEO/Board Bond, Consensus is the Key, and Taking 'Charge' of Board Committees.
Laredo is replacing current City Attorney David M. Fleishman of the Municipal Advocates Group. Fleishman, based in Atascadero, has served as City Attorney for the City since November 2000.
