PACIFIC GROVE, Calif. - At the Pacific Grove Council Meeting on June 1, the City Council approved the City Manager contract with Jim Colangelo. After four months of recruiting for a new city manager, accepting and reviewing applications, and conducting interviews, the City Council chose Colangelo to succeed retiring City Manager Ross G. Hubbard.
Colangelo brings to Pacific Grove 24 years of experience in local government. For the past ten years, Colangelo has worked for the County of Monterey and currently serves as the Chief Assistant County Administrative Officer. During his tenure at the County, he worked on several major projects including the County’s General Plan Update and oversaw the construction of the new County Government Center building. He previously served as the Executive Officer of the Monterey County, Los Angeles County and Orange County Local Agency Formation Commissions (LAFCO). Colangelo received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern California in Public Affairs, with specialization in Urban and Regional Planning.
Colangelo, who moved to Pacific Grove in 1995, stated that he is looking forward to his new position in the city he calls home with sons Griffin and Dylan. “I am honored to have the opportunity to work for this community and am committed to ensuring that the operations of city government are as open and transparent as possible,” Colangelo said.
“We look forward to working with Jim,” Mayor Jim Costello said, “We are glad we could get someone with a great track record, experience in local government, and ties to the local community.”
Colangelo will begin with the City on July 1, working with retiring City Manager Ross G. Hubbard during a transition period. Hubbard’s last day is July 6.
