Exhibiting and Interpreting the Natural History of Monterey County, California
The Pacific Grove Museum of Natural History is located at the Corner of Forest and Central Avenues in Pacific Grove, California. The Museum is dedicated to interpreting the natural history of Monterey County, California. The Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 5pm, except on New Year's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
The Museum has permanent exhibits which interpret the native plants, animals, geology, and aboriginal populations of Monterey County. The Museum also displays a variety of special temporary exhibits throughout the year. These exhibits remain on display for two to six months, though the annual Wildflower Show is displayed for only a single weekend.The Museum has an on-site education program for group visits at no cost to Monterey County schools. Visits can consist of either a self-guided walk-through, or a talk from one of the Museum staff on a specific topic, or a combination of both.
The Museum also has an education outreach program for schools located in the Monterey Peninsula area. This program provides in-class instruction utilizing hands-on objects from the Museum's teaching collection.Volunteers are always a welcome addition to the Museum's many programs. Volunteer opportunities include staffing the Museum Gift Shop, conducting tours of the Point Pinos Lighthouse, and assisting visitors at the Monarch Grove Sanctuary.
